The Lion Foundation
2020 Grant Information

The Lion Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational foundation. Our mission is to provide, direct, and subsidize funding for the realization of enhanced academic, cultural and athletic programs for the enjoyment, enrichment and enhancement of Camp Hill School District students and the community.

Awarding of Funds
  • Each year, The Lion Foundation allocates a limited sum of unrestricted money which can be used to fund grant application requests based on need and merit. This unrestricted money, combined with our “restricted funds” which are donations received for a specific purpose and can only be used for that purpose, funds the many grants we give out annually. Restricted funds include donations to athletic team funds, Kindler Park, academic needs, band and EITC program funds.
  • Priority funding will be given to academic, athletic and cultural programs benefiting CHSD.
  • Requests are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and prioritized with other funding requests that are reviewed by The Lion Foundation staff and Allocations Committee.
  • The application period is ongoing. We encourage applicants to submit grant requests as soon as they identified in case restricted funding is available. However, there will be three official grant cycles when The Lion Foundation will make awards:
2020 Lion Foundation Allocations Timeline

Grant Application Deadline
Spring: June 30, 2020
Winter: November 6, 2020

Grant Award Notification Deadline

August 2020
Mid-January 2021
For grants using “restricted funds” (such as athletic teams, clubs, donations intended for a specific purpose), a grant application can be submitted at any time throughout the year. The application must go through the review process and if funds are available and approved by the Executive Director and Allocations Chair, it can be funded immediately.

The majority of awards will be given in the spring award period. We strongly encourage candidates to apply for projects during this time so they can be implemented at the beginning of the following school year. Grant notifications for the spring cycle will be made prior to the end of the school year. Funds awarded during the spring and fall cycle should be spent by December 30th, unless otherwise noted.

Any unspent funds remaining in the account at this time will be forfeited and reassigned.
  • Communications about a funded project/program should include a mention that it was funded in part or in whole by a Lion Foundation grant or a specific sponsor/donor.
  • Grants may be awarded in the fall and winter if funding is available.
  • There is no guarantee that grants will be awarded to all applicants. Each grant will be reviewed by The Lion Foundation Executive Director and the Chair of the Allocations Committee (which is the Superintendent of Schools) who will make recommendations, as part of the pre-allocations review process, to The Lion Foundation Allocations Committee. Recommendations are based on merit, need and available funding.
  • If funding is not available, your application may be put on hold and reconsidered as funding becomes available.
  • Camp Hill School District employees need to notify the building principal, and/or program supervisor such as the Technology Coordinator if technology is involved, Athletic Director if athletics is involved, Director of Special Education/Student Services for programs in this area, etc., prior to submitting grant applications.

Approval Notification
If your grant application is approved, you will be notified via email. This email will contain a Lion Foundation tracking number (e.g., “LF000”) which you will need in order to access your funding. This “LF number” should be referenced in any queries regarding your grant. The email will also contain additional information on steps to take in order to access your funding.

Evaluation Report
Successful applicants are required to submit a brief evaluation report and photos/videos that portray the impact of the grant within 3 months of completion of the program/project. The report should include a brief statement of what was accomplished, from students, data used to assess the program, and photos/videos of the program/project. The Lion Foundation coordinates with the CHSD on its “do not photo policy” lists and uses photos in print and social media material to inspire our donors.
