The Lion Foundation awarded more than $82,300 in grants on May 24th in support of academic and cultural programs as well as additional technology in Camp Hill School District, bringing the total amount of grants awarded in 2018 to approximately $109,000. The Lion Foundation operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable organization in support of the school district, funding programs and projects not covered by taxpayer dollars.
“Grants ranged from strengthening literacy and math programming in Camp Hill schools and infusing technology in classrooms to providing new furniture and reading areas for the Hoover k-2 library,” said Foundation President Jennifer Branstetter.
Each year, The Lion Foundation allocates a sum of money for grant requests. Requests are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and prioritized with other funding requests received by The Lion Foundation Allocations Committee.
“The impact of the ongoing support of Lion Foundation donors is noticed. Earlier this month the Camp Hill School District received a Silver Medal in the U.S. News and World Report 2018 Best High Schools national rankings. Camp Hill club and sports teams are also winning district and state recognition and titles thanks in part to support of foundation donors,” said Foundation Vice-President Paul Bruder.
Branstetter and Bruder presented the grants to faculty and staff along with Patty Craig, superintendent of the Camp Hill School District; Robin Jones, Foundation executive director; and John Brosius, Foundation board member. Some grants awarded included a document camera, math calculators, iPads, novels, and laptop stations and writing programs. A complete list is available below.
Grants for Reading and Math camps, field trips and book-of-the-month programs were also awarded, and the Earl Besch Project funded almost $1,400 per school to help assist needy students, due to recent donations from the HS Student Council, MS/HS and Elementary PTO fundraisers and private donors.
“We are so very grateful for our thriving partnership and the Foundation’s continued commitment to support academic, athletic and cultural programming opportunities for the District. This latest round of grants, totaling over $80,000, has surpassed our wildest dreams and will provide our students with program enhancements that would not otherwise be possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Craig said.
